HODA Short Film Competition

The Helen O’Grady Drama Academy recently sponsored a short video competition within its network to showcase to its students their own creativity, presentation skills and ability to communicate a theme.

The only rules were:

  • Any topic
  • Anyone would be able to view it
  • There must be reference to “Kids Helpline” [www.kidshelpline.com.au]

There were solo presentations, joint efforts and whole class submissions. Parents were also ‘volunteered’ to play support roles; they responded with enthusiasm and skill.
We saw specific advertisements for the Help Line. In a thoughtful twist, bullies were encouraged to seek help, too. The Help Line was also called to help with an imminent attack by a four legged mutant (A costumed family dog showed some skill). In addition to the wonderful creativity and ingenuity of the students, the videos displayed an acute awareness of the need for a Help Line for the younger members of our society.
